What metals do you use?Updated 14 days ago

We’re committed to using high-quality, hypoallergenic materials that are safe for sensitive ears and support proper healing. All Rowan metals are free from nickel and brass. Here’s a breakdown of the metals used in our jewelry:

For Piercing Studs

Device Piercing Studs (used with our hand-pressurized device):

  • Stainless Steel: A durable, corrosion-resistant metal that is commonly used in piercing jewelry. Its strength and smooth finish make it a reliable option for supporting the healing process.

  • 24k Gold over Stainless Steel: Features a layer of 24k gold over a stainless steel base, offering a bright gold appearance while maintaining the durability needed for newly pierced ears. It combines the beauty of gold with the strength and reliability of stainless steel.

  • 14k Yellow or White Gold: A premium precious metal valued for its lasting beauty, durability, and resistance to tarnishing. Its rich appearance and long-term wear make it a popular choice for fine jewelry and everyday use.

These materials are carefully selected to be safe and gentle during the healing process.

Flat Back Studs (used for needle piercings):

  • Front: 14k Yellow or White Gold, Titanium, or 24k Gold over Titanium

  • Pin: Stainless Steel

  • Back Post: Titanium or 14k Yellow Gold

We only pierce with titanium flat backs because titanium is nickel-free, lightweight, and highly biocompatible—ideal for minimizing irritation and supporting safe healing.

Note: We do not pierce with 14k gold posts, as they can be softer and less stable during healing. You can, however, upgrade to 14k gold posts at your downsizing appointment for $20 per post after your initial healing period.

For Non-Piercing Jewelry

Our everyday earring styles (perfect for healed piercings) come in a variety of elevated materials, including:

  • 925 Sterling Silver: A popular choice for those with sensitive skin. Its timeless appearance and durability make it a trusted everyday option.

  • 14k Gold over Sterling Silver: A sterling silver foundation with a layer of 14k gold, creating a classic gold look. The result is a comfortable option designed for everyday wear.

  • Gold Vermeil: Features a thick layer of gold over a sterling silver base, combining the beauty of gold with the comfort of hypoallergenic materials. A preferred option for sensitive ears and skin.

  • 24k PVD  over Titanium: Titanium is widely recognized for its biocompatibility and is often chosen for those with sensitive skin. When plated with 24k gold it offers a lightweight and durable option.

  • Platinum PVD over Titanium: Combines the strength of titanium with the refined appearance of platinum plating. It offers a sleek, sophisticated finish that is both lightweight and durable.

  • 14k Yellow and White Gold: A premium precious metal valued for its lasting beauty, durability, and resistance to tarnishing. Its rich appearance and long-term wear make it a popular choice for fine jewelry and everyday use.

These pieces are great for sensitive ears and are designed to mix, match, and stack with your piercing studs for a custom look you’ll love.
